Description
A place of immense spiritual importance is the Gudem Sathyanarayana Swami Temple. The pilgrim center is been deeply embedded in the hearts of the masses visiting the Adilabadh district. This place is also a big tourist attraction of the Telangana Tourism. It is situated on the banks of the holy river Godavari that divides both Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. The temple is dedicated to Sri Satyanarayana Swamy, is known to be the God of truth. Temple is located in Gudem. It is a village located at a distance of about 40 km from Mancherial city of the Adilabad district. The temple from the very start had accquired prominence in Telangana, because of the existence of Lord Satyanarayana Swamy, who is the most powerful god known by the people of Telangana. The Gudem temple is also known as the Annavaram of Telangana.
History
The temple compound also has the Lord Ayappa Abhinava Shabarimala temple which is built on the lines of the great Ayappa Temple in Shabarimalai, Kerala. This is also considered to be one of the most popular temples in north Telangana region. Devotees who are unable to travel to Kerala to offer their prayers to Lord Ayyappa can now fulfill their hearts desire in Gudem.The Gudem village is encircled with holy shrines. On the other side of the Godavari in the Karimnagar district, the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is another shrine frequently visited by devotees. Both the Sri Satyanarayan Swamy Temple and the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple are connected to each other with a low level bridge in Rayapatnam located at a distance of 3 km from Gudem. Devotees can visit either of these holy places of worship by crossing this bridge.The Sri Satyanarayan Swamy Temple has ample opportunities to develop its facilities so as to become a congenial place for devotees. The construction of cottages for devotees and various other facilities is yet to be taken up. However, the absence of these basic facilities has not acted as a deterrent for devotees who continue to throng this holy shrine to view their beloved lord and seek his divine blessings. The holy shrines of Shri Satyanarayana Swami, Lord Ayappa in Gudem and also the shrine of Shri Lakshmi Narayana Swami in Dharmapoori are the major attractions of this place. The small village of Gudem has been converted into a major pilgrimage center owing to the presence of the famous Holy shrines.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
The temple witnesses highest pilgrim patronage during the Karthikai Masam. Karthikai Masam is during the English months of October and November. Lots of devotees come to the village to take a dip in Godavari River and carryout a very big pooja and make their sacred offerings at the Sathyanarayana Swamy temple. Many worshippers perform 'Sathya Narayana Vrath', which is a special pooja indicating worship and importance of the God. On every full-moon day, devotees reaching the event offer many poojas. The temple also has Lord Ayappa Abhinavam Shabrimala temple constructed on the lines of the great Shabarimala temple in Kerala.
