Sri Puri Jagannath Temple is considered to be one of the most holy and sacred temples per Hindu religion and its beliefs. The primary deities that are seen here are Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra. The temple is worshipped since the ancient times and it's said that even the Britishers were trying to find out the history of the temple, but could not find anything. It took over years for even scholars to find the real story behind the temple. Every year, from every nook and corner of the world, lots of people are seen watching the historical procession.
Importance/Significance
The temple has the rare shrine of Lord Jagannath (creator of the universe). The role of the Lord Jagannath is also mentioned in the Ramayanna. The temple is said to have been built by Anangabhimdeva. Daily there are various Aartis like Dwara Pitha and Mangalal Alati that are performed at 5 AM. The temple remains open throughout the day; in the afternoon usually the temple is closed for some time. The temple priests here still have maintained its traditional charm. Even the deities here are dressed up on a daily basis with different colors and ornaments. The temple kitchen still has the capacity for cooking more then lakhs of people.

Festivals/Events/Gatherings
As per the hindu calendar there are various events and temple. The most significant festivals like Devasnana Yatra are celebrated on the full moon day on the Jyesta. The Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are celebrated May- June. The Ratha Yatra is renowned and famous all over the world. This is a complete 10 day festival. On the 10 day festival, the deities are adorned with gold ornaments. More than lakhs of people can be seen participating in the procession. Here mostly dried rice is offered as prasadam. The maha prasadam here is cooked in pure ghee and first offered to the lord Jaganath. The Maha prasadam is cooked with great hygiene and the food is cooked in earthen pots. The Maha prasadam can be availed from Anand Bazaar and without any discrimination of caste, creed and religion. Here people believe this prasadams are Lord's blessing. The temple is also worshipped for eternal solace, tranquility and harmony.
