Simhachalam Narasimha swamy Temple is an ancient temple located in Simahachlam which is located nearby the town of Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Sima means hill and chala means lion. So this mountain is considered to be as ferocious as the head of a lion. Dedicated to Lord Narasimha swamy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu this is one of the important Vaishnavite temple in this state. Simhachalam is well connected by roads with the nearest railway station and airport in Vizag. It is easily accessible from all the parts of India. Because of the significance of Lord Vishnu, it is sometimes also referred to as Devasthanam. This beautiful temple must be visited with Family and friends especially during the months of March to May.
History
Historians unfolds that long ago there was once a king Hiranyakasipu who as Rakshasa in nature. He was very proud and wanted to become Immortal. His feeling of powerfulness enforced him to think that everyone on earth should worship him. However, his own son Prahalada was a staunch devotee of Lord Narashimha. This made Hiranyakasipu very angry and he plotted to kill his son by throwing him from atop a hill. However, when he attempted to do the same, it is said that Lord Narasimha along with his vehicle Garuda, arrived at the spot and saved Prahalada. While saving him, the feet of Lord Narasimha got buried inside the earth and this is the reason why his feet is not visible in the temple. The spot where the Lord stood on the mountain to save Prahalada is the exact location where the temple has been built.
Importance/Significance
The temple holds a lot of significance in terms of religious values. Simhachalam Narasimha swamy Temple is one of the special eighteen temples dedicated to Lord Narasimha also called the Naaramsimha Kshetras. It is believed that the Lord Gives darshan to his devotes only for 12 hours in a year on the pious day of Akshaya Tritiya. On the remaining days the statue is covered up with Sandalwood. It is one of the enshrines of Lord Vishnu and hence is also referred to as Devasthanam.

Another unique fact is that one cannot see the feet of Lord Narasimha, as it is believed to be inside the earth according to legends All the more the temple is also the second richest temple in the state of Andra Pradesh, just after Tirupati and attracts thousands of devotees all round the year.

Some of the important festivals which are observed in this temple are Kalyanam which is annually held in the month of March or April and the Chandana Yatra which falls on the third day of April or May. These are held on a grand scale and attract devotees from all over India.
