According to legends, it is said that a lady called Ratnavati, who was an ardent devotee of lord Shiva had bore a child without father. This was an act which was considered to be a crime within the society in those times. She was therefore, out casted from the society. Lord Shiva was extremely touched by her devotion and felt for her situation.
