The main weapon of Subramanya is the 'Vel', which was gifted to him by Goddess Parvathy and hence is called as Velayudha. He is the second son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy. Since he is brought up by six mothers (Krithika Devis), he is known as Karthikeyan. The purpose of the existence of God Muruga was to destroy 'Tharaka', who was a wicked asura. The Peacock is known to be the vehicle of God Muruga. Devayani & Valli are the 2 wives of God Muruga. He is the god of war. A unique fact about Lord Muruga is that he will remain handsome & young forever.
Sarpa Dosha is believed to be caused due to Sarpa Sapa or curse of the serpents. The origin of Sarpa Dosha is mythic and unexplained in classics. It is said that there is a mystic power of serpents that rule the world. The Sarpa Dosha is explained as it comes from killing the serpents in previous or present life by self or by father or grandfather and not performing the rituals for the same. The curse affects the lives in a negative way. Getting rid of it becomes necessary to lead a peaceful life. This puja ensures that the effect of the curse is removed from one's life.
Thai Posam & the Chitra Car festival are two most celebrated festivals of this temple. Early morning bhajans are dedicated to the lord. The splendor of Aadiganapathi Homam and Margazhi lures the devotees. The devotees claim to feel peaceful when such melodious sounds fall to their ears. Blessed are those, who participate or have participated in any of such services.
