Kumara Vayalur, generally known as Vayalur, is a perennial center of pilgrimage for worshippers of Lord Subramaniya from all parts of India. It is one of the holiest places of Lord Muruga and is situated 9 k.m. away, west of Tiruchirappalli city.

History

This temple was built by Cholas in 9th Century. Later Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar helped a lot to renovate this temple.

Importance/Significance

Lord Muruga created a tank here with His weapon Vel to worship His parents. Lord Nataraja appears here as Soorathandavamurthy.
