Description
Sri Badri Narayana Perumal Temple also called Badrinath Temple is located in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand state, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is also one of the 108 Divyadesam temples (a group of 108 temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu).
History
It is said that Badrinath Temple was originally installed by Adi Shankaracharya and it was renovated several times after its installation.It is believed that this temple has been turned from a Buddhist shrine into a Hindu temple by Adi Shankaracharya.
Importance/Significance
The main deity of this temple is ‘Lord Badrinarayanan’ (another name of ‘Lord Vishnu’), made of black stone at a height of 3.3 feet. Badrinath Temple is opened only for six months every year (from the end of April till the beginning of November) because of the extreme weather conditions in the region. Badrinath Temple is one of the most visited shrines in India.
