Vennaimalai Subramanya Swamy Murugan Temple is Located in the Vennaimalai village of Karur district in the state of Tamilnadu, the temple as the name indicates is fully dedicated to Lord Muruga. The temple is well connected by road and rail from all other cities and states of the country. People visit the temple from all over Tamil Nadu to fulfill their wishes and aspiration.
History
The temple was believed to be built during the ancient age and is unique for its architecture and infrastructure. More than 1220 years old, the temple is one among the medieval temples of the age. It is famous for its complex architecture, sculptures and inner peripherals studded with art works. Surrounding the temple is the temple tanks. Initial construction of the temple was expected to be started by the famous saint of the age. Once when he was passing through the underground ways of the earth, he found some stones which were precious. Taking the history of the same it was proved that the stones belonged to the famous sculptures and the idol worship of the golden age. As instructed by the astrology theory and concepts the temple was existed there that has left away this stones. In order to keep track of that, the temple was reconstructed with the incarnation of lord Muruga as the main deity of the temple.
Importance/Significance
Though the temple is dedicated to the Lord Muruga as the main deity, the temple also has many sub deities that includes Lord Shiva, Lord Maha Vishnu, Goddess Durga, Lord Hanuman and Lord Vinayaga. The existence of Navagrahas is also significant. The temple is existing in over one acres of land that shows the expansion and significance of the temple. The theertham or temple water body is located close to the main shrine where lord Muruga is worshipped. The water in this theertham is purely used for the devotional purposes and is maintained with great deed of devotion.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
Since the main deity of the temple is the Lord Muruga, Thaipoosam would be the most important festival that would be celebrated with great deed of devotion in the temple. Moreover, other major festival also includes the Kirtigai, Brahmotsava, and the famous Khanda Sashti. It is to be noted that the temple is not limited to these festivals. The long list is yet to initiate. It also celebrates the festivals that are related to the sub deities also. Vinayaga Chathirthi is also celebrated with great importance. It is the birthday of the Lord Vinayaga, and is given equal importance along with the other festivals. Since the Lord Shiva is also one of the main deities over here, Maha Sivaratri is celebrated with great pomp. It is believed that Maha sivaratri is the day when the Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati and to signify that the temple will be open the whole night and will be experienced with the rushing flow of devotees from all around.
