Shiva and Parvati were playing the dice in Kailash. At the end of each game, Shiva was successively winning the game. As Parvati got angry, he cursed her to become a cow on earth. This is a Vaishnava temple with presiding deity Perumal appears on Garuda in the sanctum itself. We see Perumal in temples in sitting, standing or reclining form only. The Lord appears on Garuda only during festivals.While many kinds of medical treatments are available today for couples who cannot seem to conceive, these treatments are not always successful, and often take the time to bring results. History

As Parvati got angry, he cursed her to become a cow on earth.According to the legends, Sage Bruhu was performing penance here surrounded by Vanni trees. A chola king who had been hunting made a lot of noise to hunt a lion. This interrupted the penance of the sage. Legend has it that many years ago, a family by the name of “Eranezhath” from south-mid Travancore located to Thalikulam located in the Trichur District.
Importance/Significance
It is said that Emperor Mushukunda Chakravarthi was annoyed about the fact that he was childless. He worshiped Lord Thyagesar presented to him by Indira.Lord Narayana is generally worshipped in three forms - standing, sitting or reclining. His eagle vehicle Garuda appears either just opposite the Lord or by a side.This temple is close to Nagapattinam, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has quite a legend behind it, and it is believed that those born under the Bharani star should pray here often if they want to excel in whatever they do.Mr. Narasimha Swamikal had predicted that when Goddess Bhadrakali would transform into Goddess Rajarajeswari, there would be some unusual changes in nature at the time of the installation of the diety.
Facts/Mythology
The Vimana above the sanctum is of Dwaidala design. Ganesha of the temple is praised as Lord Thunaivandha Ganapathi. The literal meaning of the name is Ganesha coming to the rescue of the devotee. The Goddess is said to protect the place. Followers belonging to different castes, religions and even people from other parts of the world, besides India come here to seek the blessings of the Goddess.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
Purattasi Brahmmotsavam is celebrated in the month of September and October. Margazhi Tiruvadhirai is held during December and January and Shivrathri Annabishekam between February and March.Vaikunda Ekadasi is celebrated during December and January. Garuda Panchami and Gokhulashtami during August and September and Sri Rama Navami between March and April are the festivals celebrated in this temple.The following festivals are commemorated here- Makarapathu Maholsavam: This festival is celebrated every year during the Tamil month of Makaram, on the tenth day. Elephants are decorated beautifully during this festival and on the day of Makarapathu Mahosavam, 9 or more elephants pass the temple ground.
