Gurunathaswamy Temple is one of the oldest temples in the state of Tamil Nadu.
History
The exact history of the temple is still unknown. However, it is believed that long back there were some pilgrims who were carrying three holy stones from some unknown area. After a few days they were enlightened with the knowledge of life and then they decided to throw the stones away in the holy water. The exact reason behind throwing the stones is unknown. However, the stones reached a particular spot Anthiyur and stayed there. The three stones eventually formed the three idols namely Lord Kamatchi, Gurunathaswamy and Lord Perumal. The spot where the stones lie is the exact location of Anthiyur Gurunathaswamy Temple.

The temple is of utmost importance to the people residing in the state of Tamil Nadu. They worship Gurunathaswamy not just as a God but also as a Guru showing them the light of life path. Meditations and rituals are regularly performed to seek the blessing of the Guru.

Cattle fair is organized during this festival where flocks of people arrive to sell and buy cattle from all over India. The horse fair usually caters to the buying and selling of horses and is observed annually in the month of Aadi.
