Arunasura was the leader of asuras. He started to harass sages and disturb their yajnahs. On this account devas stopped raining, which led to draught in the entire region. People were facing acute shortage of food and they were starving. Maharshi Jabali started to perform yajnahs to give respite to the people of the region. Maharshi Jabali approached Devendra to send Holy Kamadhenu with him to the earth but to his misery kamadhenu had been to varuna Loka. Devendra advises to take Nandhi, dauthter of Kamadhenu, but Nandhi resisted. After repeated attempts, when Nandhi refused to budge , Maharshi Jabali cursed her to flow as a river on earth. Nandhi pleaded Maharshi Jabali for mercy, benevolent Maharshi Jabali advised her to pray Adishakti. Accordingly Nandhi started to pray to adhishakti , Adishakit gets pleased by her meditation and consoles her to flow as river to be free from curse. Adishakti told, I will born as your daughter and free you from the curse. Nandhi started to flow as river from kanakagiri on Magha Shuddha Poornima and made the earth green. Meanwhile Arunasura gets blessesd with boon from the Lord Brahma that, he would not suffer death from men, women, two legged or four legged creature. Arunasura was also blessed with power of gayatri mantra. After acquiring power, Arunasura started conquering all the devtas, Annihilated by Arunasura ,Devtas approached Adishakti for respite. As per Adishakti's instruction ,sBrihaspathi approached Arunasura, flattered him, infected his listening to and been effective in course-plotting him from his pleasure. After disguising arunasura in the form of Mohini. Adishakti took the form of bee that is 'Bhramara' to kill Arunasura. Bhramara stung him till the breath. Now the Devas and the sages conducted "Abhishekham" with coconut water from kalpavriksha. After repeated request from sages and devas , Goddess emerged in the form of linga in the middle of river nandini. and is called as Shree Durga Parmeshwari.
