Description
Shri Rajarajeshwari temple is located at the place called Polali in Kariyangala City of Bantwal Taluk in the south of the state of Karnataka which is located in the southern part of India. Shri Kshetra Polali is located right at the centre of the city which is surrounded by some excellent hillocks and comprehensive croplands. The lake named Phalguni flows from the southern part of this famous temple. The lake changes its direction from the backside of the temple towards the western direction. This particular position was being known as the deity and Pural in this particular temple was renowned as Porala Devi and is worshipped with much pomp and dedication over the ages.
History
The Polali Rajarajeshwari Devi Temple-Polali Bantwal Coastal Karnataka has been known as in many traditional details, such as the Markandeya Purina, inscriptions of Ashoka and trip details of traditional visitors. According to a terminology discovered in the position of the temple, the temple around the clay-based idol was developed way back in the eighth century. It is a generally organized understanding that this particular temple was developed by Suratha, and that the actual offered his own top, studded with useful jewellery to be placed on the go of the deity. The master, having lost most of his kingdom in a vigorous war and after being deceived by his own ministers, is regarded to have taken haven under a sage known as Sumedha in a dense forest which was located just next to where the temple is now situated. The master is exposed to have developed the clay-based idol of Shri Rajarajeshwari and offered repentance to deity when he returned back to the kingdom. Many of the traditional details adverting the temple was exposed round the temple, but were losing gradually mainly due to the negligence of their entrepreneurs. The remaining details, which are now available these days were obtained in Kariyangala town, Ammunje and in the temple itself and is now under the legal supervision of the Karnataka State Government.
Importance/Significance
The places that surround this temple were made as per the decision by many dynasties such as the Kadamba, Alupa, Chalukya, Hoisala, Vijayanagara, Ikaria, Mysore etc. Most of these mentioned dynasties spent a lot of their resources on this temple and also offered some agricultural lands for the benefits of this special temple. Management from the Alupa Kingdom, which made the decision of building this temple way back in 710 AD is believed to have offered to the development of the temple and to have inspired the compliment of Shri Rajarajeshwari in the position. In later years, King Chennammaji of Keladi is believed to have visited the temple and endowed the temple with a large chariot.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
Puliapura is its Sanskrit version and in Kannada, this is known as Polali. It is well regarded that Suratham the king got the temple well developed. This is a traditional temple about which has been mentioned in the Ashokan inscriptions. During the festival of Polali Chendu is one of the best times for pilgrimage to this temple.
