Alangudi Guru Bhagavan Temple which is also known as Abathsahayeshwarar Shiva Tempe is located in the small town of alangudi which is approximately 7 kilometers away from Kumbakonam. It is situated in the Nagapattinam district and is one of the most popular religious temples in the state of Tamil Nadu. The primary deity is Lord Shiva and this is the only temple to have a shrine dedicated to Lord Jupiter. Alangudi Guru Bhagavan Temple is one of the navagraha temples which are dedicated to Guru Bhihaspati or Jupiter. Hence, this place is also sometimes referred to as Gurusthalam. Jupiter is ruled by Lord Shiva who is considered to bestow one with knowledge and educational success. In fact his blessing is required for all round success in any field. Worshipping lord Jupiter is important, since it is believed that Lord Shiva blesses his devotees and relieves them of all doshams irrespective of the position of other planets in their horoscope. The procedure for the pooja for removing the Jupiter Dosham is very complicated and hence the priests in the temple of Abathsahayeshwarar Shiva should be approached to achieve the desired results. Some of the basic principles include worshipping Lord Shiva in the beginning while reciting the Sri Rudram mantra. These mantras have a great impact and hence must be followed with full dedication. Guru Bheej mantra should be chanted at least 16000 times over a period of 40 days in order to get effective results. The yagna done on all the 40 days is the path towards salvation. One can also perform Rudras abhishekam and observe fast on Thursdays. This should be coupled with donation, the donating items including things like sugar, saffron and turmeric. The donations should be done on Thursdays. Some people also prefer to wear the rudra on their arms after the entire procedure is completed. The benefits of this pooja are immense. One of the prime benefits is that one is relieved from the guru or Jupiter dosham by consistently following the rituals. Success in the sphere of education can also be seen. All in all overall prosperity of an individual is granted by observing this puja. One can realize the difference by worshipping the lord and performing the rituals.
