Description
The temple is protected by Lord Bhairava in the east, by Lord Veerabadra in the west, Lord Vinayaka in the south and Mother Kali in the north. The temple with its five tier Rajagopuram is facing west. The temple belongs to Darumapuram Aadheenam of Tiru Kayilaya Parambara -descendants of Kailash dynasty. Lord Shiva is a swayambumurthi in the temple. The five towers - Gopurams of the temple are on a straight line. The Maragatha Linga (Emerald Linga) is very famous. There are two flag posts-Kodimaram before the presiding deity made of silver and gold. Navagrahas the nine planets are generally on the front side of the sanctum facing different directions in Shiva temples.
Importance/Significance
The entire temple premise is a healing blessing on its own. The surrounding of the temple complex has a feeling of peace. The holy tree of this temple is Neem, which offers the devotees with uncountable medicinal and health benefits, some just by its presence and others by use. There is the Siddhamirtham tank, the holy water from which is believed to be containing nectar, which is able to cure all diseases devotees carry out many ritualistic pujas so as to get the blessings of the Lord and a healthy life by following the puja by deeparadhana, dedicated commitments, arrangements of feast prasadam for other devotees, and by offerings to the temple. They take dips in the holy water of Siddhamirthan tank and gain its curing benefits. The sandal and ash from the feet of Selvamuthukumaran and the Vaidyanatha Marundhu are believed to heal diseases. The Bilva leaf with the sacred ash and oil from this Angaraka Sthalam cures leprosy.The devotees ask the Lord for his blessings by his abhisheka in the puja with the nector, which is theertham of the temple tank and imparts his grace in the form of cures for illness and diseases. The puja of Lord Shiva as Vaitheeswaran blesses all the devotees with a relief from the curse of ailments, diseases and illness and helps us live a happy and healthy life.
