Description
People born under the Uthiratadhi star have great oratory skills and recieve good education. They are fond of dresses and jewels, usually short-tempered. They are pious and good looking. Mother Periyanayaki graces facing south. There are shrines for Lord Vinayaka, Nandhi, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lingodhbava, Brahmma, Nagar, Lord Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanau, Navagrahas the nine planets, Chandikeswara, Bhairava, Surya-Sun, Chandra-Moon and a separate shrine for Vancha Ganapathi. As Mahalakshmi worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple, prayers bring prosperity to the devotee.
History
Lord Vishnu was performing Shiva Puja each day with 1000 lotus flowers.When the number was short by one, Lord Vishnu to make up the shortage tried to pluck one of his eyes to offer it Lord Shiva but was prevented by Lord Shiva and granted darshan.Sri Mahalakshmi followed Lord Vishnu with the puja and realized Her wish of Shiva darshan.As Lord Shiva granted Darshan to Mahalakshmi who worshipped Him with 1000 flowers, He is named Sahasra Lakshmeeswarar.Sahasram means 1000.
Importance/Significance
A simple puja can be conducted at this temple by the devotee, or by a priest on the devotee's behalf. The effects of the puja have been experienced by many thousands of devotees. In mysterious ways, wealth and gold will find their way to the person who has had a puja conducted at the temple. Not only will the bhakta see prosperity increase after the puja, this state of things will stay for a long time to come, and the bhakta will never have to experience a lack of money as long as they live. Prosperity and increase in wealth may happen due to a major promotion at the workplace, or because of a significant rise in one's salary.
