Description
Sri Mahalakshmi Sannadhi is enshrined in Kasi Viswanathar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Kumbakonam, Tamilnadu, India. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Kasi Viswanathar, and is represented by the lingam.
Importance/Significance
This temple is referred back to the Ramayana period when Lord Rama and Lakshmana are said to have worshipped Lord Shiva here during their search for Sita, and acquired Rudramsam, to enable them to fight Ravana. The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Kasi Viswanathar, Mahalakshmi and Navakanniyar being the most prominent.
