Description
Soundararaja Perumal sanctuary is the heart of Thadikombu town and is located in the district of Dindigul, Tamilnadu. This temple is 500-1000 years old; the historical name for this temple is Thalamapuri. A huge flock of people visit regularly to this sanctuary to receive the grace of almighty Vishnu. The sculptures in the corridor-prakara are renowned for their exquisite attractiveness and minute workmanship in the nails; the muscles and the internal vein are still visible. This sanctuary is considered to be as holy one as the Kallazhagar sanctuary. Arulmigh Perumal is originating in this sanctuary in asleep pose in this sanctuary and it is believed that this place was before known as Thaalamaapure.
History
The sanctuary is known for its major works of statue, the people who come to visit this temple do the same contributions as they do in Madurai Kal Azhagar sanctuary. The public who are weak in studies and suffering from deprived recollection can pray to Goddess Mother Saraswathi who is known for knowledge and almighty Hayagriva and for showering their grace from their respective temples. Some special pujas are done to almighty Hayagriva with coconut, fragment garlands and ghee during the Tiruvonam day. Almighty Chakarathalwar is glorified by the devotees with attributed to the Gayatre Mantra. Almighty Narasimha glorifies devotees with Ashtalakshmis. And there are temples for almighty Ganesha, identical Vinayaka, and almighty Vishnu's ten incarnation ways. A separate shrine for Lord Dhanvantharis is seen over here.
Importance/Significance
The people who are weak in education, suffering from lack of memory they come and pray to almighty Hayagriva and Mother Saraswathi (which are also known as knowledge gods) for showering the grace from their temple in the Prakara. On Tiruvonam day, they also perform special poojas to Lord Hayagriva with honey and a nivedhana prepared of jaggery residue, ghee and cardamom garlands. There is a separate shrine for Lord Dhanvanthari. On the new moon day abishek is carried out with oil and herbal paste known as Lehiyam. The temple is significant for its sculpture of rare and minute workmanship. The Chakarathalwar graces with deities associated with the Gayatri Mantra.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
The devotees from all over the country come to visit this temple. There is a 5 days festival which is carried on in the month of Chithirai (April-May) and 10 days Adi Poornima (July-August) are the festivals celebrated in the sanctuary, bringing huge crowd of devotees. The sanctuary is famous for its huge umbrella used during festive occasions. During the bhramotsavam (major festival) in Vaigasi (May-June), thousands of people throng the temple and that increases at least by a two-fold during the garuda vahanam festival (temple chariot). On normal days the temple is usually free except for some locals and a few tourists who come to visit this temple. The sanctuary is open from 7.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m., the poojas and aradhanas are conducted on the same time. This is a temple which must be visited once with your friends or family members.
