Description
Sri Aandu Alakkum Ayan Perumal Temple,named as ‘Thiru Aadhanoor‘
is located at Aadhanoor near Kumbakonam, Tanjore district, Tamilnadu,
dedicated to Lord Vishnu and also one of the 108 Divya Desam Temples.
Sri Aandu Alakkum Ayan Perumal temple is also known as Bhargava Kshetram.
History
This temple has a three-tiered structured gopuram
(temple tower) and is believed to be built by a Chola
King.It is said that Kamadhenu(a divine cow) worshipped
Lord Vishnu at this place.
Importance/Significance
The presiding God of this temple is Lord Aandu Alakkum
Ayan (Lord Vishnu) in reclining posture facing the east direction
and Thayaar(consort) is Goddess Ranganayaki. It is believed that
the Lord Aandu Alakkum Ayan watches all the activities ofJeevathmaas
(every individual soul) and said that the he rules the Jeevathmaas by
calculating the good and bad activities of them, including plants and animals.
