Description
Sri Andal Vatapathrasayee Perumal Temple is in Srivilliputhur, a town in Virudhunagar district in the south indian state of Tamilnadu. It is dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu. It is one of the 108 Divyadesamss dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped as Vadapathrasayi, and his consort Lakshmi, as Andal.
History
The temple has inscriptions from Chola, Pandya and Nayak rulers, from the 10th to 16th centuries. The original structure was constructed by Tribuvana Chakravarthy Konerinmai Kondan Kulasekara Devar, and the Andal temple by Barathi Rayar
Importance/Significance
It is the only place where two Azhwars, Periazhwar and Andal were born. This temple is said to be dedicated to Andal, the only female saint amongst the 12 saints of south India.
