Description
Ramanathapura is one of the major hobali towns in Arakalgud Taluk of Hassan District. The place is situated on left bank of river Kaaveri. Ramanathapura is one of the most prominent pilgrimage center in Karnataka. The place is believed as holy place from many centuries and hence called as "DAKSHINA KAASHI". There are many temples in Ramanathapura. Hence, Ramanathapura is also termed as "TOWN OF TEMPLES"
History
For spreading Madhva philosophy, the 21st swamiji of mutt, Sri Sri Sri Vibhudesha Theertharu, started to travel towards Coorg. During this tour, he established Sri Subramanya Temple at Sorlabbi. Then he visited Ramanathapura & stayed there for meditation & pooja. After completion of his pooja & meditation, he stayed at "Sankranthi Mantapa". When he slept in the night, Sri Subramanya swamy appeared in his dream and ordered to construct a temple. At the same time Sri Subramanya swamy appeared in the dream of Holenarasipura king Narasappa Nayaka. The god ordered him to give all support and co-operation required for the establishment of the temple with an assurance of male baby.
Importance/Significance
The devotees believe that all their sins will be washed away after having holy bath in river Kaaveri and performing rituals at the temple. Every day hundreds of devotees, pilgrims, tourists visit the place for fulfilment of their vows & to get blessings from god through their rituals. Thousands of devotees visits temple during car festival (Rathotsava) in the month of December and January
