Gnana Saraswati Temple is a Hindu temple of Goddess Saraswati located on the banks of Godavari river at Basar, Telangana, India. . History
It is believed that Ottakoothan, a mortal, once sought the blessings of the Goddess Saraswati and Lord Pillayar to grant him the gift of the ability to compose poems. He used bath in the river Harisol every day and used to worship the Goddess.The temple was built in the 8th-century, and was founded by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Originally it was an unpretentious shrine with the Murti of Sharada made of sandalwood, installed over the Sri Chakra that Sri Adi Shankaracharya carved on a rock. Subsequently, Sri Bharati Krishna Tirtha and Sri Vidyaranya had a temple built in the Kerala style, with timber and tiled roof. Sri Bharati Krishna Tirtha substituted the sandalwood idol with the present golden idol.According to legends, Parvati killed a demon called Kamsasuran who lived here. He tried attempted to become all powerful through his penance.As per the Tale, Alangudi is position where God Shiva drank the dangerous poison produced during the rolling of 'paarkadal' (Sea of milk). Hence this position is identified as Alangudi (basically means 'the position where God Shiva absorbed the dangerous poison'.The name of the village 'Thittai' means 'thitthu' in Tamil, i.e Mound. In ancient times, the world was surrounded with water due to 'Pralayam', that moment Brahma and Vishnu worshipped the Lord Shiv for their aegis.Gorakka Siddha came to this temple during his pilgrimage to Shiva temples.He stayed in a mutt here where many devotees were also staying.While he woke up at midnight, he was shocked to see a woman sleeping by his side and her sari on his hands
Importance/Significance

Issues faced in employment, business and career get simplified. According to legends, Shiva gifted a crystal Chandramouleeshwara Linga to Sri Adi Shankaracharya. The Linga can still be visited and the Chandramouleeshwara Puja is offered to the Linga every night at 8:30 PM. The establishment of the Mookambika temple is attributed to the Supreme, Lord Parameshwara, rather than to an individual person.Guru is linked to fortune, advantage and lot of money. The unfavourable place in the astrology can cause skin issues, joint disease, heart relevant issues, fear & discomfort.On reaching the temple, another speciality found here is the 'Guru Bhagvan' temple that is inside the temple itself.The place assumed Avittam star importance, as Lord Brahmma attained wisdom on this day.

The Perumal in this sthalam is Deva Nayaga Perumal with the Lotus in the inner palm of his right hand, and in the fore head, he has the Eye along with Jada mudi and Changu and Chakram on his hands. Festivals/Events/Gatherings
Bramha Utsavam is done for Devanayaka perumal. Malai utsavam for Vedantha Desikar and Theertha Vaari Utsavam is done. In Maargayi, Thirumozhi - Thiruvaai mozhi days (Pagal pathu and Raa pathu) utsavam for 21 days is done. Maasi Magha Utsavam is also done.On Saraswati Puja and Vijayadasami, the idol is taken out for a procession on the swan. Particularly, devotees worship directly the beautifully decorated extended feet of the goddess on Saraswati Puja Day. Navaratri festival is celebrated every year for 11 days. The Shathachandi Homa is performed on Mahanavami. On the Chaitra Shukla Poornima, a special puja is offered in the Sri Sharada Shrine.The Kollur Mookambika temple wears a festival look during Navarathri and Navarathri is celebrated with pomp, show and gaiety.Unique Darshans are organized on Thursdays as well as on the times of Jupiter's transportation to next Zodiac.Mahashivrathri is celebrated during the months of February-March.
