Subsequently, Sri Bharati Krishna Tirtha and Sri Vidyaranya had a temple built in the Kerala style, with timber and tiled roof. Sri Bharati Krishna Tirtha substituted the sandalwood idol with the present golden idol.According to legends, Parvati killed a demon called Kamsasuran who lived here. He tried attempted to become all powerful through his penance. Devi along with the help of Veerabadra, Ganapathi and Shiva took away his ability to talk.As per the Tale, Alangudi is position where God Shiva drank the dangerous poison produced during the rolling of 'paarkadal' (Sea of milk). Hence this position is identified as Alangudi (basically means 'the position where God Shiva absorbed the dangerous poison'. The name of the village 'Thittai' means 'thitthu' in Tamil, i.e Mound. In ancient times, the world was surrounded with water due to 'Pralayam', that moment Brahma and Vishnu worshipped the Lord Shiv for their aegis.
