India is considered to be the homeland of deities. All over the country one can find numerous temples and holy places dedicated to different Gods, Goddesses and their various incarnations. Also all the stories of the temples and their origins make it really more interesting to learn more about them and visit them. Maharashtra is one of the most famous states in India. This state is not only talked about its metro city Mumbai, its Industrial sector but is also famous for its temples of mythological importance. One such renowned temple in Maharashtra is the Amba Devi Temple in Amravati. Centrally located right in the heart of the city known to be a place called Gandhi square, this temple fascinates people from all walks of life.
History
This temple is a very ancient and historic temple, hence the exact dates and the story behind the inception of the temple is unknown. Hence, it is not possible to give the exact specifics. According to one of the legends that are associated with this temple is that Rukhmini who was the daughter of Emperor Bhishmak had heard about the stories of the bravery of Lord Krishna and fell in love with him, but Rukhmiya who was the brother of Rukhmini had already decided to get her married to his buddy who was the King of ChediShishupal. It is believed that a day prior to the wedding Rukhmini went to visit this Amba Devi Temple, where Lord Krishna kidnapped her, and eventually the father King Bhishmak arranged for the ceremonial wedding of Lord Krihna and Rukhmini.

Goddess Amba Devi is very adored especially in the Vidarbha region. The presiding deity of this temple is Goddess Amba Devi. There are no other enshrined deities as such in the temple. Huge number of devotees come and visit the temple especially during the festivities.

This place is one of the most famous Amba Devi temples in Maharashtra. It is held with great admiration and belief in the minds of the devotees. People come here with utmost faith and belief that all their wishes will be fulfilled and the difficulties will be eradicated from their lives.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
There are several festivals which are celebrated in the Amba Devi Temple, Amravati with great enthusiasm and high spirits. The most prominent of these festivals is the grand Navratri celebrations during the month September-October. This festival is celebrated with brightness and peace. During the Navratri festival the whole temple is decorated with lights and a very grand mela (Fair) is organized near the temple. People comes not only from Amravati but also all over the state throng the temple to seek the blessings of the Goddess and enjoy themselves at this grand mela. The Amba Devi Temple is very well connected to all the cities in Maharashtra by bus and Rail. Also the temple is centrally located in Amravati so it is not difficult to reach the temple.
