History
This Srirangam Ranganathar Temple - Srirangam, Trichy, Tamil Nadu is 1000 to 2000 years old. This temple belongs to Pandya, Chola, Vijayanagar and Hoysala dynasties. Actually the exact place where the idol of Lord Srirangam Ranganathar was located was full of deep trees and forest area as this place was not used for years. But one day when a Chola king was going in search of a parrot found the Lord Srirangam Ranganathar idol. The king then decided to construct a temple for Lord Srirangam Ranganathar and this temple is now recognized as one of the largest Hindu God temples in the world.
Importance/Significance
The golden Rajagopuram of this temple is considered to be the second tallest of all in Asia and the 1000 pillar hall is also considered to be very popular in the world. People believe that visiting this temple can help the couple for child boon, education, peace and progress in any kind of profession.
Facts/Mythology
This Lord Srirangam Ranganathar temple is having 21 gopurams, 50 shrines, 39 pavilions, and a big hall of thousand pillars. You can also see many small water pools inside the temple which are special attraction inside the temple for the devotees. There are total seven outer courtyards in this temple. Hindus and Non Hindus can visit this Lord Srirangam Ranganathar temple but only Hindus are allowed inside the main gold sanctum. Non Hindus are allowed only till the second outer courtyard. The thousand pillar hall is the main attraction of this temple. You can find sculptures of riding horses on the pillar of this 1000 temple hall. This thousand pillar hall is constructed using Granite and this was built during the Vijayanagara period that means between the period of 1336 and 1565. The tower gates or the gopurams in this temple are 21 and among those the main tower is 236 feet tall which is called the Rajagopuram is said to be the 2nd tallest gopuram in Asia. This was built in the year 1987 but the rest 20 gopurams were built in between 14th century to 17th century.

Pagal Pathu is a festival is celebrated very grandly in Lord Srirangam Ranganathar temple. You can find more than 5 lakhs of devotees visiting this temple during this festival for the blessings of Lord Srirangam Ranganathar. There are also three Brammotsavams in this temple and all of these have lakhs of devotees. Actually it is said that this three Brahmotsavam festivals temple is always celebrating some festival and always filled with devotees from across the world.
