The temple, dedicated to the Lord Vishnu, is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and is 90 kilometers away from the state capital Lucknow. Towards the left of the temple is the river Gomathy which is a part of river Ganges. Some other names of the temple location include the Neemsar and Naimisha. Naimisha is the meaning that abodes the Lord Vishnu that is incarnated with great importance.

The Naimisharanya temple is expected to be existed with a great mythology. The truth and significance of the temple was revealed to the saints and sages of the divine period that has added advantage to the temple throughout the successful generations. The temple was expected to have initiated in the Sathya Yuga where the first pilgrimage concept was introduced on the earth.
