India is known to be land of Gods and stories that revolve around their birth, their victories over the evil and their various incarnations and the various temples dedicated to these Gods. Gujarat is one of the states that has number of beautiful and eminent temples. One such temple in Gujarat is the �Arasuri Ambaji Mata Temple� located in Ambaji Banaskantha district in North Gujarat. Situated at a high altitude this temples is an exceptionally sacred place and is visited by lakhs of devotees every year. This temple is also a very famous tourist destination.
History
The origin of this temple is so ancient that the exact date is unknown. The original place of Ambaji is on the top of the Gabbar Hill. This temple is one of the most significant of the 51 Shakit Peeths in India. It is believed that when Goddess Sati after the Daksha Yagna when Goddess Sati was lifeless, Lord Shiva carried her corpse and her body parts fell at different places. These places are known as the Shakti Peeths. According to the legend the heart of Goddess Shakti fell on the hilltop of the Gabbar Hill. Since then this whole place of Ambaji Temple is known as the Shakti Peeth.
Importance/Significance
The Ambaji temple is believed to be the ultimate origin of the Super Cosmic Power of the Universe. This temple is also considered as greatly esteemed by the Shaivist religion in Hinduism. The 51 Shakti Peethas also are well known for Tantric worship and hence the Tantric clique of India can also be witnessed here. Devotees from all over come here to worship and seek blessings of Ambaji. To be here in this elevated destination and with the chant of Jai Ambe and the absolute divine atmosphere is an experience in itself.
Facts/Mythology
The fact that there is no image or idol of the Goddess but a sacred 'Shree Visa Yantra� which is considered to be the presiding deity of this temple is truly depicts the antiquity of it. There is a cave like Gokh in the inner wall of temple and this is where the Shree Visa Yantra is situated. This sacred Yantra is plated in Gold plated and has a convex or an arched shape. It is said that one cannot see the Yantra with naked eyes. Also there has been a strict restriction on photography of the Yantra in past and will be continued in the future.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
During the Bhadarvi Poornima i.e the bright full moon a massive Fair is arranged at Ambaji. This extravagant fair has almost around 20 lakhs pedesterain pilgrims who participate in it and visit the temple to seek the holy blessings of the Goddess.Others festivals which are celebrated are the Chaitra Navratri, Shravan Vad etc. A prominent of these celebrations is the Poshud Punam which is the birth festival of Goddess Ambaji. During these celebrations many times beautiful folk dances of Bhavai are also performed.
