The Mangla Gauri Devi Temple is located in Gaya, Bihar in the North of India. Gaya stands on the bank of the Falgu River. The temple is one of the 18th shaktipeeth where the breast of the Sati devi falls here. This is a very famous temple as it is mentioned in the three puranas, Agni Purana, Padma Purana and Vayu Purana. The temple is constructed at the top of the Mangla Gauri Hill. To visit the temple, one has to take the steps and road that goes to the temple. The temple was built in ancient history, hence there are relief sculptures carved in the temple. There is a small mandap available in front of the temple. The city has old buildings, peaceful natural surroundings and rocky hills where the rivers flow on the west side of the city making it look stunning.
History
The Mangla Gauri temple is founded in the 15th century and dedicated the Lord Shakti. The worshippers have to climb on the small hillock to reach the temple. The route goes in between the houses of local area people. When you start taken the steps, the first temple available at the steps route is of Bheem (one among Five Pandavs). Here, the knee impression of the Bheem can be seen clearly, as Bheem did Shraddha karma over here, hence it is called as Bhimvedi Gaya.
Importance/Significance
The Goddess Mangla Gauri Devi is worshipped as the Goddess of benefaction. According to the Indian mythology, it is believed that a part of the Sati has fallen; hence the temple is known as Upa-Shakti Pitha. It is believed that whatever wishes the worshippers made there has been fulfilled by the Goddess. All wishes come true and people returned with hands full of joy and happiness. Four more temples are located in the Mangla Gauri Temple of Lord Ganesha, Maa Kali, Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman.Gaya is considered as the holy place for Hindu as the shraddha karma is performed by the people in the ghats. The Gaya is the best place where the people perform their ritual.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
The Mangala Devi Vrat is kept by the women to perform Mangla Gauri puja. This vrat is kept on Tuesdays during the sharavana month mangalvar. The vrat begins from first Tuesday and last up to the last Tuesday of the same month. The women who kept fast dressed in traditional dress like married women wearing mangalsutra, bangles and symbols to indicate to the Goddess Gauri that they want to remain like this for lifetime.The women worshipped Goddess Mangla Gauri to have a loving husband, keep him healthy and bless them with a happily married life. As people from different regions worship the Goddess Mangala Gauri, hence their ways of worshipping the goddess is also different. All the newly married women keep this fast for 5 years and all the other married women fast only during the week of Sharavana month.
