Mata Vaishno Devi is the religious place where devotees with immense belief and faith . It is counted as the holiest destination in the world where thousands of devotees throng to worship the shrine and achieve spiritual experience. Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is located at Katra, a popular small town in Reasi district in Jammu Kashmir, located at the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains of the Shivalik Hill range. It is situated 42 kilometers from the city of Jammu. In fact, Katra serves as the main camp for the pilgrims.
History
Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the oldest shrines located in the Northern India at a height of 5300 feet. This cave temple is dedicated to Mahalaxmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali, the three supreme mother goddesses of Hinduism and one of the most important religious pilgrimage sites of Hindus. Being one of the most revered places of worship, it is recognized as one of the shakti peetha's that fulfills the desires of devotees, who with lots of hope visit the place from every corner, national and internationally for the blessings. A geological study has indicated that this holy cave age is nearly a million years whose reference is found in Vedic literature about the place the worship of the female deities. Though the mountain Trikuta is not stated in Rigveda, the practice of worshipping of the deities was started in the puranic period.It is believed that the Pandavas were the first to build the holy shrines at Koi Kandoli and Bhawan in gratitude and reverence for the mother goddess. Some traditions are of the belief that this holiest shrine of Sri Mata Vaishno Devi is the place where the eternal energy of the mother goddess has her domicile since the cranium of the Mata sati fell at this juncture. It is believed by others that her right arm had fallen at this place and some do not agree to it and called this place as Gandarbai in Kashmir.
Importance/Significance
Mata Vaishno devi is the mother of every devotee who fulfills every desire and must to visit place of North India at Katra where thousands of devotees, young and old take the trip to climb the mountain and give the hardest test of their devotion to get blessings. The temple enshrines the four pillars like Dham, Arth, Moksh and Kaam of the Hindu belief. The main points, that let the devotees to go to the temple in any of the climatic condition bravely is the three spots Bhan, ganga, Katra, Trikoot hill spots where the goddess stopped and prayed. Those who are old, handicapped and in pain, trek up the mountain crying and motivating each other with slogan “Jai Mata Di” to worship and gain spiritual experience once in lifetime.

You are given a chance to visit the place and be a part of the event and gatherings at Vaishno Devi temple throughout the year and the best season is June and July as the Chaitra and Sharad-Ashwin and new year events witness a lot of rush at the peak.
