Description
Located in the Kanyakumari district of the Tamil Nadu state, the temple, as the name suggests is clearly dedicated to the Lord Muruga. The temple is exactly located in the small village called the Kumarakoil in the Kanyakumari district that lies in the border of the Kerala and Tamil Nadu.The ancient name of the temple is the Velvi Malai where the Lord Muruga is currently residing.
History
According to the different chapters in the Puranas, the temple is exactly incarnated here due to the significance of the hills or what is popularly called as the malai. The temple holds a great history wherein the temple was constructed in a hill that was anciently or previously called as the Velvi Malai. Further, due to the expansion of the devotion, it became popular and was termed as the Kumarakoil. It is to be believed that the temple is almost 1000 to 2000 years old and it has withstood all the natural calamities that had occurred since its construction and development.The temple is very unique for its kind of architecture and the designs and the strengths that has the ability to withstand the worst circumstances that include the natural calamities, like earthquakes, floods, or whatever similar to that.

The temple, that is dedicated to the deity or the devotion of the Lord Muruga is famous and is unique from the temples of the similar kind in a variety of ways.The temple is wide in nature. It was located on acres of land and is of a traditional kind with lot of attractive features. The internal shrine is very much decorated and designed in a way that the inner deity would catch the attention of each and every devotee that is reaching the temple.Though the main deity of the temple is the Lord Muruga, all the other sub deities are also placed surrounding the main deity. The sub deities that are formed include the Lord Vinayaga, Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and Goddess Durga. Another remarkable feature of the temple is that the temple is the presence of the theertham in the back side of the temple. Theertham is a kind of pond wherein water will be used only for the divine purposes. The water in the pond is used only for the Lord Muruga and the sub deities for the genuine purposes. The presence of the pond brings out the inner beauty of the temple and catches more attraction of the by passers.

As the name of the temple itself indicates, the temple is fully dedicated to the Lord Muruga. Henceforth all the festivals and celebration that are considered important for the Lord Muruga will be celebrated here with a great deed of devotion from the devotees. The famous celebrations include Thai Poosam, Kirtigai vilakku, Brahmotsava, KhandaSashti. These are celebrated every year periodically and are very famous for its religious rituals and other perspectives.
