It is said that Lord Anjaneya carried the hills of Salakrama from Nepal as he was told to do so by his guru Narasimha Murthy and he rechristened it as Namakkal. The statue of the Lord is seen in the Vishwarupa Dharshan pose with His hands worshipping the open terrace, exposing Him to natural calamities like floods, the heat and storms.Locals believe that the statue of the Lord grows taller and taller every year. The people of Namakkal pray to the Lord to bless them with good health and a successful career. Lord Hanuman doesn't like a roof over his head, he likes the open sky. Even in the past, several devotees tried to construct a canopy for the statue of Lord Hanuman, but he rejected it. Lord Hanuman appeared to one of his devotees in his dream and told him that he does not want a roof to be built above his head, as the statue of his mentor, Lord Narsimha, that is inside the cave, has a natural roof on top of it, in the form of the hill, since his master doesn't have a roof, he stated that even he didn't want one. The emperors' of the Pallava dynasty erected many campus walls, spacious rooms and numerous stone sculptures in this temple, but they were unable to construct a canopy for the statue of Lord Hanuman. This goes to show that god didn't allow anybody to erect a canopy for him. Also, ten years prior, the temple was renovated with a big budget, but the square area where the statue of Lord Hanuman stands, was left exposed.

Followers of the Lord, from different states of India, visit the temple to pray to Him. It is believed that He relieves them of all their problems. They offer sacred garlands made of tulsi, flower garlands that adorn the statue of the Lord. They offer milk and ghee, also honey, and sugar to the Lord.
