Facts/Mythology
According to Hindu mythology, the two daughters of Lord Brahma- Kamali and Valli expressed their desire to marry Lord Shiva. Aware of the fact that fulfilling such a wish is next to possible, Lord Brahma sent both his daughters on the bank of Paalaru River and asked them to worship Lord Siva. Lord Shiva was quite pleased with their ability to experience extreme penance and appeared before them. He also told them that he would not be able to marry them as he is already married to Goddess Parwati but gave them the suggestion to marry his son, Lord Ganapathy. Respecting the wish of Lord Shiva, Kamali and Valli married Lord Ganapathy who had returned after killing the demon king- Gajamukasuran. The temple is built at the same place where the two daughters of Lord Brahma had worshipped Lord Shiva and was blessed with opportunity to marry Lord Ganesha. Shiva is hailed as the supreme of all gods as he establishes balance in the universe by destructing all evil forces. He is hailed as the destroyer among the trinity aspects of the divine. It is the Shivalinga which is worshipped as he is considered very sacred.
