Description
The shrine of Adinarayana Perumal can be found in the village of Enkan, which is cited in the district of Tiruvarur, which is based in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, which is located in our culturally rich country of India.
History
There was a saint who was named Bruhu, who was meditating in this spot that was encompassed by the beautiful foliage of Vanni trees. There was a king who belonged to the Chola dynasty who was on a hunting mission and in the process; he disturbed the saint who was concentrating on his meditation. This angered the saint and he put a spell on the emperor, by cursing him saying that he would have a lion's cranium instead of his human face as he was trying to hunt in a jungle where great saints meditated. The emperor realized his mistake and asked the saint to forgive him. The saint took pity on him and told him that in order to reverse the spell he must take a dip in the river which was referred to as Vettraru and that he must pray to the great Lord Vishnu. After he did as the saint told him to, he got his human original face back. Because of this incident, this area is rather significant with the star which is called the Mrighasheersha, because the emperor got relief from having the face of an animal, which is referred to as mrigha, and got his original face back.
Importance/Significance
People who live in the area surrounding this shrine are of the belief that even today the sage by the name of Mrigandu is praying to the Lord in this shrine, without anybody knowing.
