Sri Arudra Kabaleeswarar Shiva Temple, located in Ezhumathur, Erode, at Tamil Nadu, is an ancient temple as old as 500-1000 years. The temple is kept open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. for its devotees to come and seek blessings from Lord Shiva, with a promise to go back home happy. Most of the devotees belong to the weaving segment. They commonly pray for the growth and betterment of the weaving industry and the weaving business. Other than them, even other devotees visit the shrine seeking blessings and help for taking away all the hindrances they face in their marriage, educational upliftment and also blessings with regard to child bearing.
History
Erode Fort Arudra Kabaleeswarar Shiva Temple was built by a king named Lakshmikanthan. One day while performing a big pooja, all the pots of milk that were kept fell upside down. Later when he tried to find out what was unusual, he experienced blood spraying out when the axe hit the floor. Baffled by what happened, the king built a temple there.Another historical story is that, a few of the Kongu Cholas reigned this region and were called Karikala. It is thought that one of them built this temple.
Importance/Significance
The main structure of the Erode Fort Arudra Kabaleeswarar Shiva Temple, called the Rajagopuram is an exceptional illustration of architectural splendor. The Sun God adds to the elegance in the front hall. Lord Kanni Vinayaka enhances the Southwest corner while the holy tree Vanni is placed at the west.The temple boasts its Pollapillayar with 63 Nayanmars. It is known for its importance and power of the darshan that the devotees experience, giving the visitors a peaceful experience of the deity, also giving them a chance of visiting the paintings of Five Shivalingas showcasing the five philosophies.Sun worship is significant feature of the temple. During the last days of Masi (February-March), the rays of Sun break through all the Mandaps in the temple and also lay on the Lord, enlightening and brightening the idol giving the devotees a shining view of the Lord. The devotees have a very happy and content feeling after witness this form of darshan.

108 Shivalingas are carved on one single Linga in the Erode Fort Arudra Kabaleeswarar Shiva Temple, making it an extremely unique architecture and also a place worth visiting. On 25, 26 and 27th days of Masi month, the rays of Sun lay on the lead deity-Lord Shiva. This is the very first and one and only temple in Tamil Nadu that witnesses something as unique as this feature, giving the devotees a very pleasant feeling. The deity's idol here is in the lying position since Sage Durvasa mounted Lord Shiva like that, many years back.

Festivals like Mahashivratri, celebrated in Feb-Mar are done with great pomp and grandeur. Also Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in December is an important event celebrated in the temple. Thousands of people visit the temple during these days.
