History
Legends unfolds a beautiful story, which goes along with the idol. Long back the King of Keralapuram went on a pilgrimage to the holy city of Rameshwaram. On his way he washed his legs and found a Ganesh Idol in the river. The king took the idol with him and planned to gift it to the king of Rmeshwaram' SethuMannan'. He was overjoyed by seeing the beautiful gift and was kind of amazed at the story of how it was found. However, he could find something miraculous about the Ganesh Idol and hence requested the King to keep the idol with him, as he was the real founder of it. He also gifted the king with a big idol all studded with emerald. The King happily received the gift and was planned his way back to home. On his way back, he was attached by the plunders, who stole away the emerald idol. However, they were unable to move the idol of Ganesh which was found in the river. So they just left the idol there. Since, then the idol has been worshipped by the devotees. Though the exact period of this happening is not known, historians believe this to be about 2300 years old.
Importance/Significance
The temple holds a high importance since Lord Ganesha is considered destroyer of all evils. People worship the lord and offer coconuts and rice dumplings. Worshipping the lord specially during the changing idol color time is considered very auspicious and it is believed that the lord grants wishes to all the devotees during this period. The water in the well is also very sacred and heals several skin diseases.

One of the unique facts about KeralapuramAdhisayaVinayagarGanapathy temple is that the idol of Ganesha stays there remains intact without any external help. It is not installed by some means, but it cannot be removed from the set position. There is another unique feature of the idol. Lord Ganapathy's idol changes color every six months. How it happens?is not known, and it is considered a pure feat of miracle. The idol assumes the color of black during the Utharayan months which means from March to June. During the remaining months which are known as Dakshiyana, the idol changes its color to white. Further, there is a small well inside the temple complex. The waters in the well also change its color. When the color of the idol is white, the color of the water becomes black and vice versa. Because of this amazing fact, the temple is sometimes also known as 'Miracle Ganesh temple'.All the more, the temple is built in a very simple manner. There are no magnificent structures or inscriptions. It is surrounded by the natural beauty and hence is unique in its form.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival which is observed here with full grandeur. Events like dance and drama are organized and this attracts thousands of people towards the temple.
