Description
It is believed that the one who takes shelter in the devotion of Lord Rama can always lead a happy, satisfied and a peaceful life because Lord Rama assures him of protections against all odds in life. He is considered as one of the most powerful Gods. A very well-known temple which is devoted to Lord Rama Kettavarampalayam Sri Ramar Temple located near Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. Precisely this temple is located in Kettavarampalayam village. It is believed that this village was earlier known as Kashtaharampalayam meaning a place where you can defeat the obstacles and difficulties. But later it was changed to Kettavarampalayam which is meant to grant blessings as per desires. It is said that all the wishes of the devotees who come here have been fulfilled.
History
The exact date of inception is yet unknown but this temple is quite an old and heritage one. This is profoundly said that this sacred village is equivalent to Lord Sri Rama and Bhajans. This temple has a history of its huge Rama Navami celebrations for almost over 103 years now. The practice of celebrating Sri Rama Navami is on the birthday if Lord Sri Rama was initiated by Sri Janakirama Dikshithar. Initially this was done on a very small scale but it has gradually been followed for so many years now and has become very prominent now.
Importance/Significance
The tradition of celebrating the 10 day long Rama Navami festival was started in the year 1907. This year the temple will celebrate 107th year of this festival. This is a temple that does not even have an idol of Sri Rama but instead has photo of Rama in Pattaabhishekam pose.
Facts/Mythology
Unlike anywhere else one can hear, experience and witness the Sri Rama Nama chanting 24 x 7 in the ten days of the Rama Navami celebrations. Also these celebrations include chanting of Bhajans by several Baagavathas and this is done completely in a standing position regardless of the numbers of hours it may take.There is another temple in close proximity known as the Sri Rama Mandhiram that has an idol in the delightful Pattaabhishekam posture.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
The most important event that is celebrated and for which this temple is known for is the Sri Rama Navami festival. The event begins on the day of Rama Navami and continues for 10 days including the Ram Sita marriage festival called the Sri Ram Seetha Kalyanam and ends with the Hanumanthothsavam on the last day.
