Description
The village of Mecheri is a beautiful and prosperous place with the blessings showered on it by Mecheri Bhadra Kaliamman. The Devi temple and its surroundings provide a positive energy to the devotees. The place is surrounded by beautiful green meadows, lake and by vallattu nadu and thoppaiyam in the south.The Bhadra Kaliamman Devi temple faces the north and is situated in the southeast direction in the heart of the Mechari town. It is only few kilometers away from the Salem Dharmapuri highway. There are buses that arrive at a frequency of every 5 minutes from Salem, Mettur and Dharmapuri bus stands, which transport you to this place. The Salem Railway Junction is also near to the Mecheri town.
History
The Mecheri Bhadra Kaliamman Devi temple was built about 800 years ago by the kings who ruled the region. One day the king was able to get a Darshan of the Goddess directly and he found the idol from the place he had dreamt of. The king placed the idol at Mecheri and started worshipping Bhadra Kaliamma. In this temple, on the Tamil month of "Masi" there is a grand Car festival and flag hoisting that takes place on the eve of the full moon day, which is on the day of "Masi Madam". A small temple car is drawn by the devotees with prayers. This grand festival is celebrated for nine days and on this occasion thousands of people join in the celebration, which holds a lot of significance.
Importance/Significance
The Mecheri Bhadra Kaliamman Devi Temple is famous for its building structure and moreover the power of the goddess. A Rajagopuram is found at the main entrance to this beautiful temple. Besides this, there are another three rajagopurams that can be found in other directions also. The wide corridors and mandapams surrounding the temple have made this sacred place of pilgrimage even more beautiful. This devi temple remains open every day from 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM without any breaks. Daily poojas are conducted two-times in this temple - the morning pooja at 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM and the evening pooja at 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.Offerings like Abishegham for Bhadra Kaliamman devi are conducted as per the following schedule:Sunday 4:30 PM to 6:00 PMTuesday 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Friday 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM On other days 10:30 AM to 2:00 PMSpecial poojas are conducted on the days of Amavasi, Navarathri, Vijayadhasami, Thiru Karthigai Deepam and Thiruvathirai. Devotees can offer archanai, abishegam, nei deepam, coconut, small pongal and big pongal to the devi.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
Special pooja functions are performed for the powerful deity on every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and on full moon and new moon days. On these days, a multitudes of devotees from different places take “vritham” and come to the temple and visit the Devi. Devotees pray with vayipads to fulfill their vows and to make their offerings, from dawn to dusk.If the devotees take dharsan on new moon days, Mecheri Bhadra Kaliamman will fulfill all the wishes of the devotees. So, many devotees come to the temple on that day and offer prayers and worship to the deity. For this, the devotees assume various wishes and roam around to fulfill the vow.Two wheeler pooja, four wheeler pooja, ear boring and tonsuring are also performed in this temple by paying a nominal Pooja fee. The Mecheri Bhadra Kaliamman Devi temple comes under the purview of HR & CE Administration Department.
