Pachaimalai Subramanyaswamy Temple, also recognized as Pachaimalai Balamurugan Temple is a temple located in Gobichettipalayam, Tamil Nadu consecrated to the Hindu deity Kartikeya. The temple is constructed in Dravidian flair and settles into the top of a diminished hummock in the fringes of Gobichettipalayam. The temple also has the prodigious statue of Lord Muruga which is seeable from the town.
History
Saint Dhurvasar was the one who performed his normal routine worship of Lord Shiva in the outskirts of Gobichettipalayam. While performing his quotidian adoration, he desired to have Darshan of Lord Subramanya. When he found out there is nowhere where he can worship Lord Subramanya, he tried to find out a place for idolizing Lord Subramanya through his repentance. He ascertained a small mound where he established Lord Subramanya as Balakumara on the advice of the Lord Shiva lining west, which later highly-developed in Pachaimalai temple. The present structure was recreated by P. K. Kuppuswamy Gounder and the first Maha Kumbabishekam was done in 1980 preceded by P. K. Eswaran (Renovation commission head) with the latest being adjudged in 2006. The temple is almost 3000 years old. The temple has a five floor Gopuram built, designed in vintage Dravidian style.
Importance/Significance
Devotees offer Vastras in green to grant benedictions of Marriage. People here perform Rudrabhishek with Rose Water to Lord Muruga. It is an opinion of the devotees that the adoration of Lord Muruga would guarantee Child Boons, High Education, Health, Prosperity and relief from debt burden. Students often offer chaplets to Lord Vidya Ganapathy for yielding higher education blessings.The temple is open on all days at any specific time, From 6AM to 1PM and 4PM to 8PM. 7 timely pages are hoisted everyday by the pundits here in which the 7PM Pooja is considered to be the most special one according to the religious importance. Golden Chariot and Golden Peacock run around 7PM based on reservation process. People from various places are coming to worship the temple on a regular basis because of which the temple is renowned.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
There are various festivals which are celebrated on a large scale. Chariot festival is celebrated with thousands of people adverting the event. The lord's sculpture is taken out on a wooden chariot. The lord is greeted with garlands, green clothes and rose water. Lord Subramanya was on a six day fast along with his devotees on the day, which is historied as Skanda Shashti. Lord Subramanya with his artillery 'Vel' which was given to him by his mother to kill the demon Soorapadman. The assassination of the demon is termed as Soorasamharam and the consequence is ordained in Gobichettipalayam. While celebrating Kalyanotsavam, everyone is served with lunch and the devotees who are performing fast are served with the luscious food after finishing their fast.The holy temple is visited every day by many followers. It is 85km away from Coimbatore Airport and 40km away from Erode Railway Station.
