Description
The Bhavani Amman Temple is located in the Periyapalayam village in Chennai. It is considered as one of the finest devotional destinations for the devotees. Goddess Devi is the main deity of the temple. The main festive days include the Aadi month and Avani month wherein Devi is treated very significant. Situated 45 kilometers away from the highway for Chennai –Kolkata near to Red Hills, the temple can be reached easily via road.
History
This temple is unique with the main deity of the Lord Krishna (who is referred to as the Amman) and is believed that Lord Krishna was incarnated while escaping from the hands of Kamsan (demon king). On receiving the information about the death of Kamsan, the incarnation of the Amman got dieted there and thus the temple was formed there. The temple is still standing with its uniqueness and significances.
Importance/Significance
The temple is well maintained and organized to receive the devotees and in providing a memorable and a remarkable Darshan of the Goddess. The temple is visited weekly by the devotees and Friday is considered as the best day to get blessings from the Devi.
Facts/Mythology
The temple is shining even today with the recent renovations of Bhavani Amman. The main entrance will be opened to the Vinayaga or Lord Vinayaga and has a separate Sannidhi for Arpudha Sakthi Vinayaga. This deity is succeeded by Sarva Sakthi Amman. Now due to running flow of devotees to the temple several queues options (separated for ladies and gents) are also made available to reduce the risks. People stay in queues to see the Lord Amman wherein the devotees can either opt for Free Darshan or paid Darshan. For free Darshan, the devotees will get a far view Darshan and for 25 rupees Darshan, the devotees will get a closer view Darshan. The Moolasthanam that is referred to as the place actually where the deity or the idol is placed will be viewed with a Shanku Chakra in the upper hands. The lower hands of the Goddess will be occupied with the Amrita Kalasham and a sword. The temple entrance will be welcomed by the Moolasthanam that is a decorated seat with lots of rituals.

The Bhavani Amman Temple is visited by the devotees every day. But still, the Fridays are the most important days to visit the Goddess. People offer various kinds of prayers and offerings in the neem leaves and clothes which are considered to be a part of the rituals. Navaratri is one of the most important festivals that are significant in the temple premises. This festival is observed twice a year, once in the beginning of summer and again at the onset of winter. It is believed that during the festival that lasts for nine days, the Goddess incarnates with the nine forms to defeat the demons and to shower wellness, to shower prosperity and wealth and final three days to provide proper education and to improve the literacy of the world.
