The story of Goddess and her devotee Asadi dates back to millions of years. As per the story Asadi from Sirsi also named as Basava used to attend the Chandragutti fair at the neighboring village. While attending the fair during one of the years along with his friends he was troubled by some people there in the Chandragutti fair. This really hurt Basava and his other friends too. The other year he did not go to the fair but continued praying from his village Sirsi. One fine night he saw a dream and heard a female voice saying “I'm goddess and am there at the village tank, take me up” Basava narrated this dream to the head person and other people of his village. The villagers decided to find out the reality and they gathered at the tank of the village. The head man had threatened Basava if his dream turns out to be false then he'll have to face dire consequences. Basava started going rounds nearby the tank and chanted goddess's name. Suddenly a box emerged from the tank and everyone was surprised and stunned to find out parts of deity. The different parts of deity were assembled together and since then Sirsi Devi has been prayed and idolized.It is also said that it is just a coincidence that the finding of box in the tank and Basavas dream took place at the same time. However no one can deny the fact that the appearance of the box in the tank itself is nothing short of a miracle and since then many small miraculous events have taken place in the village.
