Description
Thirudevanarthogai Deiv Nayaga Perumal Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This is located in which lies approximately 6 kilometers away from Sirkazhi, district of Nagai. One of the famous religious spots in the state of Tamil Nadu, this temple is a part of the 108 DivyaDeshams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The place is well connected by road and railways and is easily accessible from any part of the state.
History
History of the temple is not very clearly known. However, it is believed that the temple was built some 100 years back by one of the staunch devotees of Lord Vishnu. However, there is a beautiful legend which unfolds the story as to how this place and temple got its name. The place has a spot called Thiruparkadal where Goddess Lakshmi emerged out long time back, while milky ocean was being churned to receive the nectar which was considered to be divine. In the same spot, Lord Narayana married here. In order to celebrate this occasion, and get darshan of the couple, all the devi an ddevtas flocked to this place in a group. Since group is called Thogai in Tamil and the temple is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu, the temple derived its name to ThirudevanarthogaiDeivaNayagaPerumal Temple.
Importance/Significance
Thirudevanarthogai Deiv Nayaga Perumal Temple is the 36thDivyadesam which refers to the shrines depicted to Lord Vishnu. Since, legends speak that the marriage and unison of Lord Naryana and Goddess Lakshmi took place in this very spot, this is considered to be a very sacred temple. It is believed that those seeking blessings for marriage or for children are granted the same once they worship this spot and perform certain set of rituals. The temple is also significant in the sense that Lord Vishnu gave darshan to Vashista. Vashista belongs to the sect of Sapta rishi's and is considered to be the best among them. He has done deep penance in praise of Lord Vishnu, pleased with which, Lord he himself appeared on the spot to give his divine darshan. This increases the importance of the temple by manifold. The temple is unique in many features. Though the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is considered that the temple signifies the unison of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu and hence is one of its kinds found. All the more the architecture of the temple is such that the shadow of the Vimaanam falls within the premises of the temple arena only. This is considered to be some sort of blessings from the celestial gods.

Thirudevanarthogai Deiv Nayaga Perumal temple is considered to be a very auspicious site for organizing events such as marriage ceremony and engagement. Since, the marriage of the lords took place at this spot; it is considered as a place to hold such ceremonies. Birth of child and mundan ceremony is also which are organized in this temple.
