This Uthiyur Velayudhaswamy Murugan Temple is located in Uthiyur place, which is in Erode district of Tamil Nadu. This is a hill top temple with more than 500 years of history.
History
You might have heard about the 108 temples of Lord Murugan, that are praised by Sage Arunagiriar in the Tirupugazh hymns. This temple is one among those 108 Murugan temples. This Uthiyur Velayudhaswamy Murugan temple is also called as the Tindalmalai Murugan temple. There are two other names of Lord Murugan in this temple like Kumara Velayuthaswami and Kuzhandai Velayuthaswami. There is a special story associated with Idumban as well. Poondurai was not having rains and farmers were suffering as there were no rains. All the farmers together prayed to Idumban to get the blessings of Lord Velayudhaswamy Murugan. After Idumban's prayers to Lord Murugan, rains poured out in this place. This tradition is still being continued in this place for rains.
Importance/Significance
The temple is having great architecture. At the entrance itself you will find many statues on the arch of the temple like : Lord Murugan, Deivanai, valli, Vinayaka, Lord Shiva, Lakshmi, Parvathi and Saraswathi along with the vehicle peacock of Lord Murugan. This arch gives a very warm welcome to the devotees of this temple. You can find a small spring on the top of the hill. The water of this is very sweet and this water is mainly used for abhishekam to Lord Uthiyur Velayudhaswamy Murugan and the devotees who visit this temple also quench their thirst at this temple.

There are many beliefs of this temple. It is believed in this Uthiyur Velayudhaswamy Murugan Temple - Uthiyur, Erode, Tamil Nadu that if you place a lemon near the feet of the Lord Murugan then all your wishes would be fulfilled. Any adverse affects would be gone after offering lemon at the feet of Lord Murugan. People also offer annadhanam and clothes as part of their prayers. People who buy new vehicles also visit this temple first for Pooja. You will find the Thannasi Guhai which is a cave. This cave is offered prayers on every Karthika Deepam day as it is believed that the souls of past reside in this cave. You will first find Lord Vinayaka in this temple, and you should offer prayers first here before you visit the temple. The Deepa Sthamba of this temple is also a special attraction of this temple as the design of this temple is not seen in any other Deepa Sthamba in the entire south Indian temples.

There are many festivals celebrated in this temple like Kruthika, star days of every month, Chitra poornima, new moon days, Thalai Aadi, Vaikasi Visakam, and All the Fridays are also special in this temple. Deepavali, Navarathri, Panguni Uthiram and Karthikai Deepam are the grand festivals of this Uthiyur Velayudhaswamy Murugan Temple.
