Located in the Pudukottai village of the Viramalai hill in the state of Tamil Nadu, the temple is fully incarnated for the worship of the Lord Subramanian Swamy or is otherwise called as the Lord Muruga. The temple is one among the old and the traditional temple that holds the significance for its tradition, design and the inbuilt architecture. The temple is located exactly 17 kilometers away from the main city
History
The temple is expected and believed to be the one among the oldest ones of the time and is expected to be built around 1000 to 2000 years ago. The temple is still polished and is very attractive in nature faith of the ancient designs and constructions. According to the different chapters in the Puranas, it is believed that the tree was placed in the place where the temple is currently located. It is mythological belief that the temple is exactly located in the place where a tiger was spotted and disappeared to believe there where the temple was constructed then. Spotted as a hill temple, the temple is famous even marked as the main one among the Murugan temples.
Importance/Significance
Unlike all the other Murugan temples that are situated in the South India, this temple is of the importance that it is not located in the top of a hill. Located exactly in the Pudukottai village of the Tamil Nadu state, the temple is well connected by the other cities and temples by road. The sub deities of the temple include the Lord Hanuman, Lord Sri Rama, Sita Devi, Nagaraja and Lord Shiva along with the Goddess Parvati. The main uniqueness of the temple is that the temple is well known for its architecture and construction that takes one back to the ancient traditional age. It is believed and experienced that the way of the temple and the surrounding environment of the temple is always observed by a set of peacocks all the time.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
Being a temple that is dedicated for the worship and incarnation of the Lord Muruga, the temple is highly confidential in its celebrations and festivals. The main festivals that are celebrated with great importance in the temple include the Thaipoosam, Brahmotsava festivals. Kirtigai and the Khanda Sashti and is celebrated in line with the traditional rituals and beliefs. Another notable festive season of the temple includes the Vaikashi Visakam festival that lasts for around ten to 11 days. The festival usually falls in the month of the May or June every year alternatively. Music festival is also of equal importance that is prior to the Diwali festival. Diwali that is considered as the festival of lights is also considered as the main festivals of the temple All the festivals of the temple are celebrated annually. The temple would experience a huge flow of crowd or the devotees for the Diwali, Tamil New Year and other festivals of the temple from different parts of the country.
