Karmanghat Hanuman Temple is situated at Karman Ghat near Hyderabad city. The temple is said to be the oldest temple in the city. The idol is mesmerizingly beautiful in a meditation posture. That's why it is also known as Dhyana Anjaneya Swamy.
If we look back into the history of the Karmanghat Hanuman temple, it is believed to date back to the twelfth century. He was very tired and found a lush green tree suitable for rest. As he sat under the tree, he heard continuous chanting of Lord Rama's name. He was very surprised about it. While searching the source of chanting, he found a beautiful idol made from stone. It was a Hanumana idol in the sitting posture. The chanting was coming from it. He was quite amazed with the scene and paid his respect towards the idol. He saw a dream in the night in which Lord Hanumana ordered him to construct a temple.
It is not only the oldest temple of the city, but it is perhaps the only shrine that sprawls over such a large piece of land. Spread across 3 acres of land, the temple is quite picturesque and serene. There is a pond in the premises where devotees can take a dip in the holy water. Other than Lord Hanuman, who is the main deity, there are various other temples in the complex. Lord Rama, Devi Durga, Devi Saraswati, Lord Siva, Lord Jagannatha, and Navgrahas are there to shower divine blessings on the devotees. There are temples of Lord Ganesha, Venugopala Swamy, and many other deities.
Kakatiya king Pratapudra II constructed the temple, and it became a major pilgrimage in the later years. After 400 years when the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb heard about the temple, he came with his army to demolish the structure. First he sent his army to the temple. They could not even enter the premises. His general reported about it. Furious Aurangzeb came to the place and tried to break the wall using a crow bar. However, as soon as he touched the wall, he heard a fearful roaring and a divine sound from heaven. The voice said that if he wants to demolish the temple, then his heart should be immensely strong. The wordings were “Kar Man Ghat”. Therefore, the place is still known as Karman Ghat.People believe that worshiping Lord Hanumana for 40 days can cure any kind of illness. Also, childless ladies are blessed with healthy and wise kids if they worship Lord Hanumana with complete devotion and dedication.
It is one of the most crowded temples of Hyderabad. As per Hindu mythology, Lord Hanumana is chiranjiv (immortal). Hence, he can bless devotees in Kaliyuga by giving them a glimpse of himself. Many people have felt the divine presence of Lord Hanumana there. Among important festivals, Sri Ramnavami and Sri Hanuman Jayanthi are the prominent ones. A lot of pomp and splendor can be seen among the people who come to the temple to take part in the festivities. Other than that, there are celebrations like Krishna Janmashtami, Dasara, Deepawali, Karthik Poornima, Shivratri, etc.
