Sigandur is a tiny village which is encircled by luscious forests and waters i.e. river Sharayathi. The village forms a part of the Sagar Taluka in the state of Karnataka. The temple is home of Goddess Chowdeshwari who is also referred as Sigandur Chowdeshwari in the temple and the village. The goddess that resides here is considered to be quite powerful and the nearest town to the village is at about a distance of 42 km from the village and the Sagar Taluka. There is yet another idol installed in the temple which is the idol of mother Sigandur Chowdeshwari. The idol is quite old and was found around 300 years ago on the banks of river Sharavathi. This idol is prayed and worshipped by devotees to bless them with peace and prosperity. There are many buses and local rickshaws or cabs that will take you to the nearby spot of the village Sigandur. As mentioned before the history of the temple is about 300 years before. As per the story a person from the village Sheshappa had gone for hunting in the nearby village when he lost himself in the forest area. He was sleeping under the tree when he got dream of Goddess Sigandureshwari and she asked him to build a temple for him. Sheshappa narrated this dream to the pries of the village and both of them together built a temple for the goddess. Sheshapa became the trustee of the village. Apart from this the temple conducts lot of other social activities for cleanliness and health of the villagers.
