The Goddess of Love and Devotion

Goddess Parvati was born with the purpose of being a consort and a wife for Lord Shiva after he was mourning the loss of his first wife, Sati. After Lord Shiva was distraught with the death of his wife, he retreated to the mountains and renounced the world and went into meditation. There he harnessed incredible powers but was unable to use it because of lack of love or a purpose to live.

Because of Shiva’s time in solitude, the Asuras had driven the Devas out of heaven. When the Devas prayed to Lord Vishnu, Lord Vishnu told them that Sati would be reincarnated as a human being (who came to be known as Parvati) and she would marry Shiva and give birth to a son who would slay all the demons in heaven.

After Parvati was born, she had an affection towards Lord Shiva from her childhood. After she grew up she tried a lot to attract Lord Shiva’s attention but it was of no avail as Lord Shiva was undeterred. But Goddess Parvati was determined too. She tried to adapt to Lord Shiva’s aesthetic lifestyle and performed a severe penance. Soon, she too could possess the same spiritually incredibly powers that Lord Shiva did.

Lord Brahma was impressed with Goddess Parvati and asked him for a boon. She asked for her to possess the beauty and charm to attract Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma agreed. This time when Parvati went to Lord Shiva, he was enchanted with her beauty and allure. The two fell in love and got married in sight of the gods and their union resulted in the Birth of Kartikeya who according to the prophecy defeated all the asuras.

Hence, Goddess Parvati is always an inspiration to her devotees that one can always achieve what they want if they are fiercely devoted and that love can conquer anything. Hence, she is known as the Goddess of Love and Devotion
