The most powerful and famous temples in Andhra Pradesh is Sri Venkateshwara Temple which is located in Tirupati of chittoor district. The deity of this Sri Venkateshwara Temple is Sri Venkateshwara is known by many names like : Yedukondala swamy, Govinda, Balaji and Srinivasa as well.
History
This Sri Venkateshwara Temple is having a history of many years. This Pandavas, Cholas and Vijayanagara pradhans were also great devotees of Lord Sri Venkateshwara. There are seven peaks which are said to be Adishesha's seven heads. The seven hills are Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrushabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri. Actually the word tirumala means sacred hills as Tiru in Tamil means sacred and mala is also a Tamil word meaning hills and both together is sacred hills.
Importance/Significance
This Sri Venkateshwara Temple - Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams - Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh is situated 853 meters above the sea level and the temple area is almost 10 square miles. The main temple of the Lord Sri Venkateshwara is on the Venkatadri hill. The temple is situated at the southern side of Sri Swami Pushkarini which is considered to be the holy tank of water for the devotees. Lord Sri Venkateshwara's consorts are Bhudevi and Sri Devi.

This is the main idol of Lord Sri Venkateshwara in this temple. The idol is almost eight feet tall from the crown to the toe. This is considered to the main wealth of this temple as the crown of the Moolavirat, Lord Sri Venkateshwara is made of diamond. Another avatar of this Lord Venkateshwara is Snapana Beram which is an angry form of the Lord. This always remains in the sanctum and brought out only for one day and that is on Kaishika Dwadsi, but this is worshipped daily. Others are Kautuka Beram, Utsava Beram which is taken out of the temple for devotees for Brahmostavam and Bali Beram who is the presiding officer and takes care of all the rituals performed at the temple.
Festivals/Events/Gatherings
All the festivals related to the Lord Vaishnava are celebrated here. The most important festival of Tirupati is Brahmotsavam which is normally celebrated in the months of September or October. In the months of March and April Vasanthotsavam is celebrated and Magha Shuddha Saptami which is celebrated when Lord Venkateshwara is taken out of the temple round the temple. This is celebrated in the month of February.
